Wheel bearings are as old and important as the wheel itself thanks to their ability to allow free rotation without the damaging effects of friction and wear. In this article, we'll define and discuss the individual components so that you are better informed when you are ready to purchase replacement wheel bearings, hubs, seals, and components.Wheel bearings allow the wheel to spin smoothly and avoid damage to other suspension components. They include a central housing and a number of rollers which roll along a separate smooth outer bearing race. Some wheel bearings include both an inner and an outer race with rollers in between as one unit.

The wheel bearings of your car take a lot of abuse. They support the entire weight of the car when it’s running. That aside, the wheel bearings have to shoulder extra pressure while negotiating bad roads and the occasional curb, when the lateral force on the corners makes your wheels spin thousands of revolutions each minute.
